The EU law on cookies is there to make sure that the Database Directive does not get lonely, both laws demonstrate an obsolete understanding of how technology works.  That said the law requires that I inform you that this site uses uses cookies.  These are small text files that are placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience. It may seem ironic to you that a site dedicated to data protection would install a cookie on your machine, the primary purpose of which is to provide  anonymised (?) tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics.  But I am (slowly) updating and upgrading this site.  Getting statistics on who is browsing the site and how they do so is useful to me.

Google (and Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and any other social media sites you have failed to log out of before you went browsing) is almost certainly tracking your web-activity anyway.  There was a time when disabling Cookies in your browser might have allowed you to “surf the net” anonymously. That time is long gone.

Cookies may make your browsing experience better (though not on this site).  You may prefer to disable cookies on this site and on others. The most effective way to do this is to disable cookies in your browser. We suggest consulting the Help section of your browser or taking a look at the About Cookies website which offers guidance for all modern browsers
